Historical Background & Genesis
Established in 2000, the Akhil Bhartiya Transport Association (ABTA) was formed to provide an apex, unified, and resolute leadership platform for India's vast and decentralized road transport ecosystem.
Road transport is the true lifeline of India's economy, carrying more than 65% of freight and 85% of passenger traffic. Yet, for decades, transport operators struggled in isolated silos, facing multiple state taxes, border harassment, high toll burdens, unremunerative freight tariffs, and police interference.
The Evolution of ABTA
Under the visionary leadership of senior veterans including Shri KK Sethi, Shri RK Sharma, Shri Rajkumar Tekdiwal, and Iqbal Khattar, ABTA grew from a grassroots movement into an apex national confederation uniting over 3,500 district and state federations representing more than 95 lakh truckers and 50 lakh passenger vehicle operators.
